Dune Café, Palm Beach

If we were designing the perfect toddler morning, it would look suspiciously like coffee followed by an enormous pirate playground.

Dune Café sits at Palm Beach Parklands overlooking beautiful Currumbin Creek, right beside the much-loved Pirate Park playground.

Grab breakfast or coffee before letting the kids loose on the pirate ship and play equipment. You can even make a whole morning of it with a swim in the creek afterwards.

Cubby Bakehouse in Chinderah is already worth the stop for its coffee, incredible pastries, fresh bread and seriously tempting sweets cabinet. What makes it even better with kids is Turnock Park, just across the road.

Grab your coffee and something delicious from Cubby, then head across to Turnock Park, with its epic upgraded playground where the kids can climb, explore and burn off some energy.

It is such an easy morning with toddlers: great coffee, pastries and one seriously good playground directly across the road.

Just take extra care crossing Chinderah Bay Drive with little ones.

Stones Throw is one of those rare cafés where the children's play area feels like it was actually considered rather than added as an afterthought.

It has a relaxed neighbourhood feel, great coffee and a proper café menu, making it particularly handy when you have toddlers or preschoolers in tow.

It is less of a traditional sit-down café-and-playground situation and more of a perfect Gold Coast morning with little kids, which might actually be better.

If your ideal family café involves coffee, countryside and children disappearing off to explore, Farm & Co is worth adding to your list.

Located in Cudgen on the Tweed Coast, Farm & Co combines beautiful food and coffee with a relaxed working-farm setting.

There is a kids' playground overlooking the farm, and families can head out to explore the property too. Little ones can see the animals, wander around the farm and hunt for fallen macadamia nuts.

There is something wonderfully simple about giving a toddler a mission to find macadamias and watching it become the most important task they have ever been assigned.

It is a lovely option when you want more than just breakfast. You can easily turn it into a whole morning outdoors.

Located just a few sandy footsteps from Tallebudgera Creek, it is an easy place to grab coffee, breakfast or one of their famous Portuguese custard tarts before heading off for an outdoor adventure.

You are perfectly positioned to combine breakfast with a morning by the creek, making it a particularly easy option with toddlers and young children.

Sometimes you do not need a playground attached to the café. You just need excellent coffee, something delicious and somewhere brilliant to take the kids afterwards.

The Farm, Byron Bay

If you are happy to venture a little further south, The Farm Byron Bay makes for a beautiful family day trip.

This working regenerative farm has plenty for children to explore, including farm animals, paddocks, gardens and a children's playground.

There is also no shortage of good food for the adults. Grab pastries and coffee, pick up something for a picnic or settle in for breakfast or lunch at Three Blue Ducks.

There is even daily animal feeding, and Baylato is conveniently located next to the children's playground if a post-play gelato is required.

This is one where we would allow a couple of hours rather than simply stopping for breakfast. There is plenty to wander around and discover.

One of the best things about living around the Southern Gold Coast and Tweed Coast is that a good family morning does not have to be complicated.
